This is a shirt/print design that I did for Overthrown, a great upcoming clothing company with a bunch of cool shit.
This image is my take on a more traditional form of Death with his scythe. I have been wanting to challenge myself with lighting within my work, I feel that my past drawings don’t have enough contrast between light and dark. This ultimately comes down to me battling to leave areas unrendered, instead of an area remaining white I feel compelled to stipple it even when it is not needed. Then everything gets pulled onto the same plane, at least that is how I see it. The upper decorative frame is meant to be reminiscent of church doors, leading down to the broken chains, which once blocked the way for Death, but have since eroded. These outer elements became more part of a decorative frame than anything else, I am trying new things, we shall see which stick in time.
